I Hate Mile 23

awpoops:

I think I’ll be doing my first 18-er this weekend. I’ve done a lot of runs in the 15-17 range, and averaged about 40 miles a week for the last month. I’m not really following a training plan. I’m just doing this willy-nilly. The heat this summer has been really shitty, but for the most part I’ve just been running what I feel like running, and reminding myself that this is a hobby and hobbies are supposed to be fun.

See you at the Tuneup!

Totally: this summer has been awful! Usually I have trouble losing my mojo through the winter and ending up back at square one because I failed to run at all in February (for example). But this year I hardly ran in July, because I just couldn’t bring myself to, it was so hot, for so long.

I really did just about crap out in July, but I think I’m back on track. I haven’t done fast runs in quite some time, so I gotta hit the track a few times soon. Tune-Up: hell yeah, let’s finish it then go watch football all day like we did last year. That was awesome. There’s no greater feeling than knowing you just did an 18 mile race and you don’t have to do shit the rest of the day.
